Global Mahdavia Club, Chicago - Successfully conducted Mahdavia Qirat Contest during the first half of Ramazan 1441 (2020)


Dear Brothers & Sisters in Faith,
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُم وَرَحْمَةُ اَللهِ وَبَرَكاتُهُ‎

We are glad to update you that the many organisations of Qoum-e-Mehdavia are making an optimum use of this global lock-down which has been observed to control the spread the of COVID-19. The good thing is that the lock-down period got overlapped with the Holy Month of Ramzan. This lock-down enabled many devotees to focus some time in devotion in their devotion to Allah, or gain deeni knowledge.

Taking this opportunity the Global Mahdavia Club [GMC], a religious and social club based in Chicago, organized the Mahdavia Qirat Contest recently in this Holy month of Ramadan!. The competition took place over the span of couple of weeks and concluded on 10th May 2020. Children from all over the world were invited to send in their videos and participate in this online community gathering.

Participants were given a week's time to submit their Qirat video along with their information to be qualified for this contest. The Qirat Contest was well received and it attracted 133 entries ranging from ages 2-19 years. The participants were placed in three categories;

  • Group 1 (Ages 8 and under) - 56 Participants
  • Group 2 (Ages 9-14) - 61 Participants &
  • Group 3 (Ages 15-20) - 16 Participants
The Qirat contest was witnessed live by our community from across the globe on Facebook as the children were judged by three judges. The Jury for the contest were Hafez Syed Khundmir Sirajuddin, Hafez Syed Meeran Sahban Khundmiri and Hz. Peer-o-Murshid Syed Abul Hadi Syed Qasim Manzoor Miyan Saheb for the judge for Group 1, Group 2 and Group 3 respectively. The main criteria for judging was tajweed along with melody. The judges selected four finalists from each category to compete live for the grand prize. 

The grand finale was streamed live on Facebook on May 9, 2020. The live event was hosted by GMC’s Janab Syed Khundmir Obeyd Saheb. The event included Qirat recitations by Faqeer Qari Syed Meeran Ashrafi Saheb who is an award winning Qari from Karnataka and Hafez Syed Meeran Sahban Khundmiri Saheb who is a Hafez and Qari living in Chicago, USA.
  • Miss Syeda Kulsum Quaiser, aged 8 resident of Hyderabad, India, bagged the Group 1 Grand Prize of $100 cash - sponsored by GMC.
  • Master Syeda Nazrah Tahreem, aged 12 resident of Hyderabad, India, bagged the Group 2 Grand Prize of $250 cash - sponsored by GMC.
  • Master Nabeelah Kaonain Khatoon, aged 19 resident of Hyderabad, India, bagged the Group 3 Grand Prize of $500 cash - sponsored by Committee Naujawan Quam E Mahdavia Hyderabad.
It is reported that, as the event was well received by the community the Global Mahdavia Club has decided to hold this competition annually Insha Allah, as a way to encourage our community youth to practice Qirat.
Mehdavia Times takes this opportunity to congratulate and appreciate Global Mahdavia Club for organising the Mehdavia Qirat Contest. This is the need of the hour to encourage youngsters to come towards Quran, Transform Quarantine Time to Quran Time and learn to recite it as it has to be recited. Such contests will not only imparts interest but also motivates all to learn Qirat. We also take this opportunity to congratulate all the winners and participants of this contest.
May Allah enlighten all of us, and make us read Quran regularly and with melodious way.
